由来・語源
象（かたち・姿）と徴（しるし・あらわれ）の合成語。抽象概念を具体的な形象で表すという字義。
説明
中江兆民が『維氏美学』（1883〜84年）で案出した翻訳語。「抽象的な概念を具体的な形あるもので表すしるし」という意味を持たせた。後に憲法用語としても採用された。
