由来・語源
現（あらわれる）と象（かたち・すがた）の組み合わせ。本体が外側に形をとって現れたものという意味。
説明
西周が『利学』（1877年）で西洋哲学用語phenomenonの訳語として用いた。のちに『哲学字彙』に収録され学術用語として定着した。本体（本質）に対する外的な現れを指す。
